The stranger pulled the hood of his long leather jacket against the cool night winds of the Kansas plains, watching the glow of the nearby human settlement and savoring the planetary implications of his next move. He had tracked the target this far and now, finally, the man's identity was known. In truth, he would never have picked him out of a crowd. Hesitant, luckless with women, twenty-six years old and still living with his grandmother -
No, cancel that. He turns twenty-six tomorrow. Remembering the birthday present he'd arranged for his target, the stranger twisted his face into something which could almost be called a smile. Sensing that the moment had come, the cloaked and hooded figure shrugged his body deeper into the folds of his jacket and continued his march into the unimaginatively-named Kansas City.
He wondered again if he'd found the right man - but then, Command had confirmed the DNA sample, and the stranger knew better than to question Command.
