Durgan and the branded prepare for their final assault against Sulfus, the king of Ungstah, knowing his fall is their only way to freedom. But as each day passes and lives are lost, the uprising falters.
This gives Aniel very little time to discover the mysterious origins of the voice behind the throne, especially since its specter looms over all of the Northern Reaches. Can she quench the evil that began with a king 500 years before?
Crik and the downers are unaware of the lurking danger, even as they near the safety of Arined. But as the arm of Sulfus grows, the downers may find that no place in the Northern Reaches is safe. It just may be that their only hope lays in a city that no longer exists.
