Emily is a determined young teen whose biggest dream is to one day be a state champion runner. She has many obstacles to overcome before her wish comes true.
Her evil Grandma Helen has come for a surprise visit just before Emily's big track meet. She treats Emily badly, but the girl is determined not to let anything stand in the way of her big day.

Off I went, flying in the wind. I heard Mom and Dad cheering me on. "Go, Emily, go!" The other ten girls were way behind me, and I was so happy. The more I ran, the faster I ran.
I said, "Yes, yes," breathing heavily as I ran. Suddenly, I heard Coach Ryan blow the whistle, telling us girls to quickly get off the field. I kept running, though I noticed the other girls had stopped.
Because Emily didn't follow the coach's rules and kept running, she was disqualified from the track meet. Will she be able to overturn the coach's decision and compete after all?
