The Book of Zechariah is one of the most visionary and symbolically rich works of the Hebrew prophetic tradition, written in the early years of the Second Temple period.
Composed in the late sixth century BCE after the return from Babylonian exile, Zechariah addresses a community rebuilding both its temple and its identity. The text opens with a series of striking night visions-symbolic images of horsemen, lampstands, flying scrolls, and measuring lines-through which themes of restoration, divine sovereignty, and moral renewal are expressed.
